PROFESSIONAL
EXPERIENCE
June 2009 - June
2011: Teacher – Sulseong Elementary School – South Korea
As an English teacher in a Korean public
school, my job was to develop and implement a program to get
students fluent in English (as a foreign language) appropriate to
their grade level (first through sixth). I also designed and taught
courses that were delivered before and after regular school classes.
This proved to be an exciting way for students to improve their
English skills and included music, singing, making items out of
recycled materials, and games involving crossword puzzles and word
searches. After the activities, we would discuss how they could
bring this success into other areas of their life. Throughout my
teaching I worked closely and collaboratively with my Korean
co-teachers to develop ideas that kept the students interested and
excited about learning English.
July 2007 – May 2009:
Owner – Transformational Detailing – Tacoma, WA
I started my automobile detailing business
in 1993 as a part-time supplement to my full-time teaching job (see
below). I moved the business to my new home in Washington after
leaving California in 2007. My success has always grown organically
by word of mouth. Referrals from satisfied customers typically focus
on my unique ability to ask the kind of questions that reassure
clients I honor and respect their vehicle as much (sometimes more)
than they do. My attention to detail, both interior and exterior,
reflects my commitment to customer satisfaction. I have learned to
give quality estimates regarding the time and cost that will be
required to complete the job, and I honor my commitments. It is this
kind of work integrity that has fostered my success and grew my
client list of quality referrals.
Feb 1992 – June 2007:
Teacher – Russell Elementary School – Long Beach, CA
As a third-grade teacher, my most
important responsibilities involved creating assignments that
stimulate and inspire my students to think. I spent many hours
outside of the classroom working with students to analyze their
grades and to understand how they could improve them. During our
weekly staff meetings, I was a consistent contributor of innovative
ideas for reaching out to our students and their parents. The
school was located in a part of Los Angeles where immigrant families
predominate. The mix of Hispanic, Asian, and African American
students created a very challenging environment in which to
accomplish our learning objectives. I was frequently singled out by
the administration for my creativity and leadership skills and
publically acknowledged for promoting inclusivity and cooperation
between the student groups as well their parents and teachers.
Jan 1988 – Jan 1992:
Substitute Teacher – Los Angeles District
In addition to my short-term substitute
teaching for the K-6th grade classrooms, I was frequently
asked to assume long term assignments. These positions lasted as
long as six months before the primary teacher was able to return to
his/her assignment. My ability to step into an often difficult
situation and create the continuity required to exceed the learning
standards meant that I was in high demand and well respected by my
peers. My success as a substitute teacher provided invaluable
experience that I was able to draw upon when I ultimately assumed
responsibility for my own classroom.
Jan 1980 – Dec 1987:
Salesman – New and Used Cars, Parts and Service
As far back as I can remember I have loved
cars. The first books I learned to read were about the history of
the automotive industry. So it was not surprising that I found
myself visiting car dealerships from a very young age. Throughout my
years in high school and junior college, I worked part-time, and
occasionally full-time, selling automobiles. My passion for cars led
naturally to my success as happy customers increasingly referred me
to their friends and family. I developed a reputation as a
knowledgeable salesman who was truly committed to insuring that I
had a satisfied client as well as a profitable transaction.
